Home > Luau > Luau Food > New Luau Additions New luau additions Almost all modern Hawaiian luaus also feature more typical American dishes, such as salads — particularly macaroni salad, condiments, stew, barbecue, "sticky" white rice and other Asian dishes such as curries, noodles, Korean kim chee, chicken katsu, Filipino pork or chicken adobo and much more... Another relatively recent innovation is to sprinkle the somewhat sour-and-spicy Chinese li hing powder on all kinds of dishes, particularly fresh fruit such as pineapple spears or chunks — even shave ice. A friendly warning, however: You may find yourself somewhere other than Hawaii, craving li hing anything. Then what? You might even consider making your own luau dishes.
